CLICHE AU LAIT

Micah Perry recieved a classical painting education throughout the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii, and Sand Diego. In 1999 he discovered performance art while painting in his studio and in 2000 coerced James McGlothlin and Jeremy Kemp to support the effort by co-founding CLICHE AU LAIT. The name is derived from what they all wanted; James: Hyperclicheism, Jeremy: Anti-Hyperclicheism, Micah: more coffee.

The experiment began with Micah organizing weekly costume-making-and-wearing events for which he established a little used room in the local college. Rarely sleeping Micah would update the video from the prior week and display it in a video kiosk which would even wear a past costume and it would announce the upcoming event which anyone could attend and participate. The intention was simply to explore and discover what it means to interact with the public while bringing this "Art making" experience to a different array of people. Since inception CLICHE AU LAIT has been motivated to give the viewer an art experience similar to that of the artist herself.

"The complexities of gender and identification are the tools we most often use to split through the veils of perception opening up real creative connections."
- Micah Perry 2008
